March 23rd

We are still working on our surrealist drawings or paintings today. Due to the snow days I am giving extra work time on this project. The Monday after we come back is the last in class day to work on this! So after spring break we can start a new project. Today our warm up and daily artist can be found here.

March 15th

After yesterdays class period I have realized that I haven't explained surrealism enough. A lot of us are confusing a basic collage with a surrealism collage. So, today we will be looking over surrealism and what sets it apart from collage. We will also touch back on general to specific. The rest of the class period will be devoted to finishing our surrealism collage and enlarging it onto the thicker paper.

March 14th

Take a look at today's art work in the warm up. What do you think? Is this an example of Surrealism? Why or why not? From here we will look at our daily artist Alex Fishgoyt and examine some of his surrealist paintings. We will then look at the rubric requirements for this project. Unlike the last two, this project will be graded against this rubric. We will then talk about the steps we have already completed and how to begin drawing or painting our enlarged surrealist collage using the notion of general to specific. Refer to slides for daily artist,  project rubric and project instructions for today.

March 7th

Today we will be looking at Julian Beever's street art. After our discussion we will be finishing our spray painting. Today is the last in class day to spray paint. If you are not done you will have to come in after school Wednesday or Thursday, after Thursday I will no longer offer spray painting.

Once your final images are created I am asking each student to critique themselves as well as grade themselves. Thursday I will meet individually with each student and we will discuss what grade they think they deserve and grades will be entered and posted online. Furthermore, for students who finish this step, I am asking them to write 2 paragraphs (minimum 10 sentences) explaining their idea of the future. I showed my example a few days ago. I am asking each student to write these paragraphs because we will be doing a peer critique.

Excellent examples of student work so far!
